One of the most hotly awaited launches this year, Noir's first collection Geist, was immediately snapped up by Harvey Nichols. Now, those purveyors of chic Harvey Nicks know a thing or two about style, and like most of us they would never dream of buying a fashion brand based purely on it's ethical credentials. The clothes must cut the mustard. Make us look cool, sexy and stylish. Noir deliver on all of these counts but there is more to them than meets the eye.
Masterminded by Peter Ingwersen, (ex-Levi's and Day, Birger et Mikkelson), Noir is pioneering the way with their luxurious, fairly traded and soon-to-be-organic high fashion. The current collection is a feminine take on menswear, part edgy glamour, part rock-n-roll. But veggies and eco-purists beware - watch out for the occasional and not quite as ethical use of fur. Oops, oh well, no-one's perfect!
Good for you because this is great ethical consumerism and sooo glam. Indulge yourself whilst knowing that your purchase is supporting Third World communities through the Noir Foundation.
Good for the environment because Noir are launching their own fair trade Ugandan organic cotton called Illuminati II. Touted as the finest sub-Saharan cotton, it will feature in their collections from Spring/Summer '07 and will also be available wholesale. This will make it easy for other fashion houses to embrace the organic movement too.
