About to embark on a kitchen re-design? Don't move 'till you've read this! Our resident Green Guru Penney Poyzer has just put the finishing touches on her eco-fabulous kitchen and spills the beans over her prized contacts list .

Having almost finished an eco-renovation of her and architect husband Gil Schalom's Nottingham home, she said “the kitchen is the most energy-hungry room and also the room that most attracts - or puts off, buyers”.

“The kitchen features drawer and door fronts made from recycled yoghurt pots and kitchen cabinets made from reclaimed timber. Walls and woodwork are painted in ultra eco, non-toxic paints. The stainless steel work top (100% recyclable), the A rated fridge, triple A rated washing machine, induction hob (uses 50% less electricity than a conventional electric hob) and combination microwave/cooker means that we've reduced the energy consumption of our kitchen to below 50% of what a typical one uses.”

“We also went for vintage furniture instead of buying new but the crowing glory is the lighting. We've used LED lights and the 12 lights use a total of 36w and 3 of them change colour enabling us to completely change the mood of the kitchen. And what's more, the bulbs won't need to be changed for a 100,000 hours!”
