There's boudoir and boudoir: de Sade's was the stage to explain his notorious doctrine of libertinage, O's, in Pauline Réage's seminal erotic novel, the place where an endless game between master and slave took place. But Lucy Tanat-Jones' Edinburgh-based boudoir, also known to the locals as Organic Pleasures, is rather unique being the first organic sex boutique in Europe.
Nestled in the heart of the New Town, this stylish shop furnished with antiques and featuring chemical-free crimson painted walls and even eco-friendly engineered wood flooring, is the quintessential organic sex experience. Its range of sex goods includes the Yes lubricants and soya candles releasing a natural massage oil, non-toxic and hypo-allergenic sex toys, such as clitoral stimulators and luxury gold-plated vibrators, a range of classy lingerie that will definitely wet your appetite and something else as well, and accessories like ostrich feather ticklers and silk masks to unleash the burlesque diva in you.
Miles from the sleazy male-dominated or tacky sex shops that in more recent years have mushroomed on the high street, Organic Pleasures is a sophisticated yet not intimidating shop designed by a woman for women. “I wanted to create something with a comfortable and luxurious environment for women to come in and, with the kind of current trends in organic ranges not just for what regards body care products, food and housecleaning, I came up with an erotic boutique with an eco edge,†Lucy explains.
By Christmas Lucy is going to add more products, among them books, to her stock, in the meantime she's hoping to contribute to the outbreak of an awareness of all-things natural while concocting a plan to take up the world, “I want to expand the concept and open a few boutiques,†she says, “but I'm also in discussion with some manufacturers about getting more organic versions or improved versions of some products and eventually develop my own range.†If sex is a natural experience, what could be better than playing it organically?
